This work portrays a research and analysis of the historical development of the Schlingermarkt, the only remaining open traditional fixed market north of the Danube, located in the viennese neighborhood of Floridsdorf. This project is focused on the ‘soft urban renewal’ strategies the Gebietsbetreuung [viennese neighbourhood office] is carrying out to improve the market and its surroundings in collaboration with the local population, workers, and institutions. This analysis illustrates how the collective vision of the market and its surroundings for the year 2030 could look like by increasing climate resilience, creating activities for young and old, and a wide range of events to bring life back to the market, which had been struggling with declining visitors until 2015.
