Integral Urban Revitalisation Strategy

Intending to explore critical theoretical approaches that propose ways to achieve social and environmental justice in our cities, this work analyzes the Caring City approach to urbanism and how it can serve as a framework to guide the participatory construction of fairer cities. With this objective, this project studies current social and spatial issues through an environmentalist and feminist perspective in order to further explore the integration of these concepts in urban planning in the cities of Córdoba (Argentina), Vienna (Austria), and Barcelona (Spain). This knowledge is used to propose a final theoretical reflection that includes strategies and principles of urban design towards a Caring City. All the lessons learned serve as guidelines for contextualizing them in a proposed urban revitalization strategy for a defined area in the center of Córdoba, Argentina. The resulting design project is based on participatory design methods, in collaboration with the local association JUNTAS por el derecho a la ciudad. Finally, the main objective of this project is to serve as a reflection on how the field of architecture and urbanism can involve and promote change towards socially and environmentally just cities, placing the daily lives of residents and environmental sustainability at the center of urban planning decisions.
